Papillon is a parent-child class where your toddler from as young as 18 months (by September) is introduced to the French language. Since you, as a parent ( or another guardian), are present, you will also be exposed to the French language and can therefore reinforce the expressions that are learnt at home with your little one. We will use a lot of fun, sensorial activities to engage your toddler in this class.

    Frequently asked questions

Will I need to provide or buy any other type of supplies?

There will be a set of activity sheets/workbook and songs to be purchased for the preschooler, kindergarten and elementary groups.

    How will students be “assessed”?

Your child will not receive formal assessments with grades. However, his/her knowledge will be ‘tested’ using class activities and games. In the Toddler and Preschooler classes, you will be present and will be able to see first hand how your child is getting along in classes. For the older classes (Kindergarten and Elementary), you will be invited in at some point in time (likely on the last class of each term) to see your child participating in class.

How do I know which age group to sign up for?

For the Toddler class (Papillon), your child must be 18 months by September.
For the Preschooler class (Etoile), your child must be 3 years old by September.
For the Kindergartener class (Soleil), your child must be 5 years old by September.
For the Elementary class (Abeille), your child must be 7 years old by September.

If they won’t be that age by September, you can sign them up for the age group just under.

Note: It is important to note that each child develops differently. If your child will be the required age soon after September or you think that he/she is developmentally capable of being in an older group, please send an email to languagefunbarbados@gmail.com so we can discuss it and find the most suitable group for your child.

How often does class take place?

Classes are once per week for a period of 30 mins to 60 mins depending on the age group. The classes take place for a period of 26 weeks – 32 weeks over the academic year, broken down into 3 terms (similar to the local school system).

What are the term dates for the 2018 - 2019 school year?

Here are our term start dates:

    Term 1: Saturday, 22nd September, 2018
    Term 2: Saturday, 5th January, 2019
    Term 3: Saturday, 13th April, 2019

Are there any additional activities to do at home?

We believe that reinforcement at home is the key to retaining vocabulary and expressions taught in class. That is why we will send regular updates via the communication app of new vocabulary introduced. You might also be given simple FUNwork tasks to do with your child which might involve listening to a song, watching a video clip, doing a worksheet etc.

  • Signing up with LANGUAGE FUN BARBADOS is a decision we will forever treasure!

Our son attends the 3-5 age group French programme at LANGUAGE FUN BARBADOS. He absolutely enjoys it! Whenever he whines about going to school on a Monday, he always says BUT I want to go to French with Auntie Leandra. He loves the interactive nature of the sessions with the use of stories like The Little Red Hen (in French), the use of puppets, songs, activities and games, like Bingo. What is more is that the kids actually learn the language!

With my training as a Teacher, I say unreservedly: the programme is amazing! It is well structured and sessions are highly organised. The creative and fun approach used to teach our kids a new language is unique and admirable. It is VALUE for money! As parents we are kept informed of the curriculum for each term and provided with updates on class activities. We also get to see our little ones in action at the end of each term.
