    Let's celebrate Francophonie week 2020!

  •

  • WANT TO UNLEASH YOUR CHILD’S FULL POTENTIAL ?

The Petits Picasso Competition is open to all children ages 5 – 11 years in Barbados (no previous exposure to French is required to enter). Children may be enrolled in a public or private academic institution or homeschooled. Participants can enter one of the following age categories:

    Category A: 5 – 7 years olds
    Category B: 8 – 11 years old

    GUIDELINES FOR POSTER COMPETITION

Entrants are to create artwork around the following theme (only one (1) entry per child allowed) :

Theme:  Le monde merveilleux de la Francophonie ! (The wonderful world of Francophonie!)

Are you wondering what your child/student should draw/paint? Here are some questions you can think about to get some inspiration:

    • – What comes to mind when you think of French language and/or Francophone culture?  **Please bear in mind that Francophone culture is more than just Paris and France in general. Therefore, including elements of the Francophonie will be expected by the judges.
    • – What French-speaking countries exist?
    • – What opportunities would learning French open for you?
    • – What do you like about French language or culture?

This is your opportunity for your child to learn some new things about francophone culture and show their creativity! (While parents and teachers can give inspiration and help their child/student generate ideas, the actual artwork should be done entirely by the child. Please note that the judges will be considering this element to ensure that the artwork is one that is expected to be produced by a child at his/her respective age. )

GRADING: The artwork will be judged by a board of 3 judges, selected by Language Fun Barbados, all of whom have some sort of relation to the French language and Francophone culture. The artwork will be graded according to the five following categories: 1) Layout & Visual Clarity, 2) Creativity, 3)Relevance to Theme, 4) Design & Appeal and 5) Effort.

  • Being a language lover and educator, Leandra King has always thought of ways in which she can promote foreign languages within the Barbadian society, as she has personally experienced the benefits of speaking a foreign language. It is her desire that young children have these same amazing opportunities ahead of them as they grow older. It is for this reason that Language Fun Barbados was founded in 2017; to provide a French language immersion program, using curricula specially tailored to young children ages 1 – 10 years.
